Goals and Resolutions

Just a friendly reminder to those wanting to do the GA ING full or half marathon prices go up on January 1st. So get a jump on your New Year resolution and save a few bucks.

In regards to goals and resolutions, my advice is to set the bar low. You are more likely to have success if you don't aim too high. You should also incorporate a goal or resolution that you will be okay with failing to meet. Some degree of failure in life is expected so it just makes sense to me to go ahead and incorporate the failures into your yearly goal planning. That is not called being pessimistic just realistic. Realism keeps your optimism from being too lofty.

Last year my goal was to be faster and my resolution to be a more positive person overall. I was successful in my quest for speed but I am still struggling with last year's resolution. Admittedly, it has been a bit difficult to remain positive with how much shit the end part of this year has thrown at me. But in my adopted optimistic fashion I am going to say bring on the New Year and here is to being lucky in 07.

With all that in mind here are my goals and resolutions for the New Year.

Resolutions:
1.) Again, be positive--since I don't think I was totally successful on that last year.
2.) Enjoy the moments and not worry so much about the upkeep
3.) Stop making fun of Pat's hair--psst this the one that I am okay with not keeping.

Goals:
1.) Run 2 marathons in a year.
2.) Run a 3:30 marathon
3.) Get my 10k under 42 minutes
4.) 1:35 for the half marathon

What are your goals and resolutions for the New Year?

I hope everyone has a great and safe New Year.

P.S. The pictures and posts from the Pink Pig, Santa, the Loser party and Christmas are coming. My main computer crashed and being recovered/repaired so it might be a while before I get those posts up. I am not certain what pictures were downloaded there and what are still on my camera.

  1. Ms Natalie....Happy New Year to you and your family!

My seven goals for 2007 (shin splints allowing) are:

    1. Run two marathons (hopefully four)
    2. Run two 1/2 marathons (hopefully four)
    3. Run as many 10K/5Ks as possible.
    4. Marathon in 3:30...BQ for 2008.
    5. 1/2 marathon in 1:30.
    6. 10K in under 40 min.
    7. 5K in under 20 min.

Other than that...just to keep healthy, injury free and enjoy my family!

  3. I'm reluctant to post it because to say it out loud would make it impossible, but - 1/2 marathon under 2 hrs.

  4. Charlie, our goals are very similar and I too would love a sub 40 for the 10K and a sub 1:30 for the half but that just doesn't seem likely to me. The 20 5k maybe but I never run 5ks. I agree about the injury free. Staying injury free is the only thing that will make any of that possible. Best and good luck to you!

Bruce, you've been quite helpful for me too. Your training is so organized it has proved an excellent and very helpful guide for me.
Are you doing LV again next year and Boston or just Boston?

Stephanie--2 hours--no problem-- provided your injury doesn't hurt you too much is definitely yours. Your 5K and 10K are fast enough to get you there. As I said before good luck at Disney and have a great time.

  5. Yup, I'll be running the 2007 New Las Vegas Marathon again, must keep that streak going! I see you're planning on TWO marathons with a goal of breaking 3:30 for 2007, which I believe is definitely doable for you. I'll be happy just to beat 3:45, but will consider how strong I am once I finish the SLC half-marathon, which will be my time trial. Boston in 2008!!!

  6. I am going to drink less, eat less, write and run more. That pretty much sums it up.

Unfortunately drinking less and eating less make me a complete bitch, so you may not want to talk to me until 2008.

  7. Let's just say you don't drink less when we do our girl's beach trip. Do you think you could work that provision into your resolution? Otherwise I think theose are very good resolutions.
